The inspiration for this post came when I stumbled upon Luwan Global Beads' very contemporary angular and tubular beaded earrings tutorial

The split color combinations make this simple design stunning. The instructor demonstrates two lengths. Where you put the color blocks is entirely up to you!

The use of monofilament for the thread rather than any other thread gives the work the rigidity it needs.  Try 6 lb fishing line. The nearly clear fishing line also means the thread is less visible.

This tutorial  by Happybeads_channel uses a "twin" needle method which works up very fast. The monofilament thread here is stiff enough so you don't need actual needles.

See this past featured cylindrical earrings tutorial which uses head pin cores.
