Notches Sewing  is and Australian instructor on Youtube I follow - in the vain hope that I might have time to sew again! Those of you with lots of scrap fabric will be inspired to make these awesome fabric butterflies. They are easy gifts to make.

She has a tutorial on how to make fabric butterflies and includes embellishment ideas using lace and metal elements and beads, if desired.  At the end of the video, she shows how you can attach hair bands, hair pins and scrunchies to turn the butterflies into hair jewelry. Or use it to adorn other accessories like hats, fabric bags, clothes, even quilts.

Hop over to Youtube for her tutorial which uses two layers of fabric - I can't embed the tutorial here. The fabric is cut 5" x 3.5" or 13cm x 9cm .  She says you can make butterflies in any size so long as the width is about 70% of the length.

Hers is not the only fabric butterfly tutorial on Youtube. There are many others. But this tutorial is the clearest with lots of tips.
