One of my favorite quotations (see my past post A Jewelry Box of Quotations), is that by Sonia Henie (1912-1969), the Norwegian figure skater and Olympic gold medalist. She said, " Jewelry takes people's minds off your wrinkles." What she meant was jewelry detracts from our aging and no longer smooth skin.
Christiaan Lebens though doesn't see the negatives of getting older. He was so inspired by the weathered texture of skin, he came up with his unusual collection, "Ode to Imperfection."
Just like the fine wrinkles on our faces, it takes a closer look at his pieces to see his rendition of aging skin. These are brooches in silver and polyurethane :
His work goes to show, anything can be a source of inspiration!

Wow that is pretty amazing!
ReplyDeleteSociety is so obsessed with youth and staying vibrantly young that we overlook the beauty that goes with age. Each silver strand of hair is a milestone on life's highway, every wrinkle an impression of the knowledge that we've garnered from our own experiences. Christiaan Lebens designs are provocative but I would not consider the vestments of age as "imperfections" to me they are badges of courage, of honor, trophies of achievement and diplomas of wisdom. :)
ReplyDeleteHear, hear! I believe I have earned every single strand of grey hair!
