Think your teenager's lip piercing is too much?  You definitely haven't yet met 35-year-old Maria Jose Cristerna.

But this Mexican mother of 4 and tattoo artist is not the sort of person you'd like to encounter at night...at least not with a cross pendant and garlic bulbs on hand. That's because she is known as the Vampire Woman.

She has titanium horn and fang tooth implants in addition to numerous piercings. Maria cites horrific childhood abuse as the reason why she needed to reinvent herself. She says she now leads a normal life despite her unusual appearance.

She said, "The horns I have are a symbol of strength and were implanted without anesthetic. I had the fangs done because I loved vampires as a little girl and I changed the color of my eyes so they were how I really wanted them to be."

She also explained, "Tattooing is my way of being immortal, of really being a vampire and not dying – leaving my work on other people's skin."

OMG! Watching that is like watching a train wreck. You know you shouldn't stare but it's too awful and weird not to! Unbelievable. And sad, too, that she would feel the need to do that to her body!

It's just too freaky!! It was hard to watch. Just thinking about doing "normal" activities during the day.....seems pretty impossible!!!! Thanks again Pearl.

Do people do things like that to themselves because they hate themselves so much or is it for attention ?

goodness, sometimes i try to hide the elegant little deer tattooed on my wrist when in polite company, but this is on another plane.

atleast shes happy i suppose? i buy shoes, she gets horns.

It is rather sad that someone needed to do all that to her body. And even sadder when others judge her based solely on her appearance.

It is extreme. So is the excessive plastic surgical alterations pursued by some people.

Kinda hard to look at. I wonder what kind of "DR" would perform that kind of surgery on her-especially w/o anesthsia?!

Appalling. She may think of it as expressing herself, or becoming who she truly is, but there are consequences to it, also. Poor thing. Just shows you what abuse can do to our minds.

Her looks are extreme but she did survive the abuse.

when people get body enhancements such as horns, tongue splitting, even body piercings, it is illegal for them to use anesthesia as they do not have a degree for it.
