I am a fan of Czech beads because of the variety, quality and wonderful bead finishes and colors. One of the Czech manufacturers is Preciosa Ornela. Check here for all their tutorials. It is based in Jablonec nad Nisou, a town in the northern part of Czechoslovakia with a long history in glass and jewelry making.
The beads and design inspirations they feature on their website are just stunning. What first drew me there was their new line of of Twin seed beads. These are two holed, oval and measure 2.5 x 5 mm. They come in a wide variety of finishes and colors. The double holes do expand the range of beading design possibilities.
The puffy oval or rice shape is inspired as the tapered ends will allow tighter alignments and different arrangements than with tila beads (see link below). The geometrically inspired bead woven bracelet above is absolutely stunning. Luckily for us, there is indeed a tutorial for it!
Other designs using Twin beads are below including the Gift for Victoria design and tutorial.
As it is a relatively new product, it will take time before suppliers on this side of the pond start stocking Twin beads. (Update : Sparkle Spot sells them!)
I was unable to get a firm date but I hear Preciosa Ornela plan to offer free samples via their Facebook page. So start haunting there!

Gorgeous Work! I really love the beaded beads and the Farfalle Medusa Bracelet. But I'm a little confused on how to make the bracelet. Not sure whether to braid or weave wires together or what. But beautiful bracelet and I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteSort of weave. That Farfalle bracelet is made from two long strung wire pieces, one with the larger beads and the other with smaller beads. These are bent with many meanders and entwined together in a pleasing manner. It is an easy technique but will take some work to make it look right.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing! I am a huge fan of Preciosa, but it never occurred to me to check out the website for tutorials. I can't wait to play with these twin-hole beads.
ReplyDeleteThese beads are AWESOME!! Sparkle Spot Beads is already stocking them!! There are four colors in stock plus Crystal clear. The colors are Antique Bronze, Black Silver Picasso, Copper-Lined Crystal. Crystal Matte, Jet, and Jet Matte will be back in stock this Wednesday (7th). Find them in the "Seed Beads", "Czech" section of the website from the menu on the left. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pearl. I will have to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteI love the beaded mobile phone case! I could see turning that into a miniature purse -- just big enough to hold the essentials.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all these amazing tutorials!
