Australian artisan, Liana Kabel says, " With a Tupperware lady mother and a jeweller father what else was I going to be but a jeweller obsessed with plastic!" Not just any plastic but often vintage knitting needles too.
Her creations from this humble material is nothing short of inspiring! One of her most spectacular designs are the necklaces shown above. The colorful plastic is strung on stainless steel wire.
She also coils the plastic needles into rings with the end tabs becoming the focal elements!
Liana's strong sense of color is evident as is her wonderful creative ability to transform what are essential long straight plastic rods into jewelry.

So am I! Artisans like these remind us that we have barely scratched the surface of creativity!
ReplyDeleteLove the bright colors and the creativity.
ReplyDeleteIf I find my local craft shop is out of plastic knitting needles, I'll surely know why. :)
Gorgeous, gorgeous! As another jeweler obsessed with plastic, I gotta love her work!
ReplyDeleteYes, her work does inspire us to really look at our craft and thrift shops closely for items we can "cross-polinate" over to jewelry making.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with plastic - they are colorful and light and just begging to be put into imaginative jewelry designs.
