Kazuri West's $75 Giveaway for Kazuri Necklaces and Sammunat Nepal Beads

I've never really been involved in a product development before. But I am always curious. So when Paulette Walther, founder and owner of Kazuri West asked me to test if her idea of a ceramic disc with holes would work as wired tree of life design foundations,  I just had to say yes.

Experimenting and playing in my workshop is irresistable!  Kazuri West is the US supplier for not just Kazuri beads but also Samunnat Nepal polymer beads, polymer clay products and so on.

We decided to test a couple of different sizes. The well known fair trade collective in Kenya which provides vital employment to many women (and men) then made up the samples below for me to work on.   The series of holes along almost one half of the disc's edges became my anchor points in the making of the beaded twisted wire tree.

Ceramic discs have some heft.  So I felt the larger 2 ½"discs were a little too big and heavy to be pendants. The completed design shown at the top makes for a great ornament once I find or make a small stand for it!  It is amazing what a difference ½ " makes. The actual two discs now available from Kazuri West are shown below the ornamental tree of life one.

The smaller 2" discs do make good focals as you can see from my necklace design below.  I used copper wire with turquoise chips on the lovely mosaic colored disc. The tutorial for this is available here.

Paulette also asked if were possible to make whimsical people jewelry with Kazuri beads.  So here is what I whipped up!  These little bead and wire people are doing a happy dance because of this awesome giveaway from Kazuri West!

  9. I have never used polymer clay beads before. I have been wanting to try them. I have even thought of making some. Obtaining them free sounds a lot better than making them myself. I can't wait to incorporate them in my bead embroidery work!

  12. What great designs you have come up with Pearl!

Would the larger disc be too big to become a brooch? I could see that with all of them actually - attaching a pinback on ceramic isn't all that hard.

    I'm in!

    1. Yes, I think the larger trial disc I worked on is too big and heavy for a brooch. It is a possibility with the the 2 inch ones with a glued on pinback.

  38. WOW-WOW-WOW!! Honestly, I'd grown rather weary of the Tree of Life in a hoop design (sorry, but they're just everywhere these days) - BUT these gorgeous disks have revitalized the whole concept and design!!! They're GORGEOUS - what a FABULOUS idea!

Who says you can't reinvent the wheel - Paulette DID! Ha!

And your design and execution have given new LIFE to the Tree of Life! BOTH your creations are STUNNING - those Kazuri's are such an interesting backdrop for your gorgeous bead- and wirework.

I did an immediate DOUBLE-TAKE at the sight of this post - I've been "glazed-over" at Tree of Life designs (again, sorry) for the last couple of years, but THESE made me sit right up and gaze and gaze….

And the whimsical people are ADORABLE and so FUN! They look so happy and make me want to whip up a dozen and spread them and their JOY all over the world!

Bless you, Pearl and Paulette, for working together so brilliantly to further such a worthy company - KAZURI !!!!!

I'd be thrilled to win this giveaway (I've already picked out the stunner: #5162 Benin Deepwater 18"), but even if I don't win - thank you BOTH for your work and this giveaway!
