Goody Beads' $50 Gift Certificate Giveaway - Stacked Riveted Earrings Feature

Goody Beads are back with another great giveaway!  This Minnesota based online beading supply company offers an ever changing array of supplies. I spotted some cool supplies and a tool from their site to feature.  These riveted earrings are easy to make. Just stack different findings for unique designs!

I particularly like their collection of stamping blanks especially the prepatinated ones -  if you can't or couldn't be bothered to make your own, then these are super easy to use.  The photo below shows a variety of metal blanks - copper, brass, Vintaj copper circle blanks - which were part of the package I received for review.  Not shown are the dark Vintaj Arte circle blanks.

Yes, the bare metal ones were not perfect. Metal blanks rarely are unless you buy them all polished up.  You could polish them up with increasingly finer grade sandpaper (see this past post on how to sand and polish metals) but a quicker and much prettier solution is simply to hammer them to add texture. Those fine scratches disappear!

Goody Beads also supplies rivets (shown above) and  this neat tool. The center finder is actually a carpenter's tool. But jewelry makers will find it very handy to determine the exact center of metal blanks especially the round ones. It is surprisingly tricky. The tutorial on how to use this tool to make the riveted earrings is here.

You don't really need a center finder to get the middle of a square as you can just draw diagonal lines from corner to corner.  But the tool makes the task a breeze.  Very satisfying when you get the riveting just right.

  9. I love making metal earrings and pendants with cold connection techniques but cutting blanks to match perfectly is a pain. Pre cut blanks would be a God Send so I can just concentrate on the designs rather than the cutting.

  13. I have recently learned how to rivet. I have riveted pieces of PMC to copper to use in earrings and pendants. This kit would help me expand my experience. I also enjoy wire work and would love to see a givaway related to that. I am a follower and subscriber to your blog. I can be reached at derinthompson@comcast.net

  40. Hi, Pearl –

I'm one of your longtime email subscribers AND I'm already a very satisfied customer of Goody Beads, so, obviously, I think they well deserve your features!

I would love to win this giveaway – Goody Beads has SO MUCH good stuff, if I do win, it'll be hard to choose, but I'll force myself. Ha!

I'm a mixed-media gal and do a LOT of metal work – honestly, sometimes my hands practically scream at me, "Can't we please have a break with some PRE-CUT starters???!!!" So, I know what they'd say, "Get all the pre-cut metal you can!!!!!"

And these blanks ARE pretty cool, aren't they? No problem with "imperfect" metal, either – by the time I'm done, it doesn't resemble its beginning, anyway – that's the FUN part! Hammer it, texture it, drive over it – YIPPEE!

Thanks to you, Pearl, and to Goody Beads for this giveaway!

  52. Hi Pearl,

First off I want to start off by saying that I am a fairly new follower of your site, and so far I love everything about it. I love the posts that you make and all the things I have learned.

I love Goody Beads and the products that they offer for sale. They have wonderful quality of supplies and an excellent selection of types that they offer.
I do not get to shop there often or at any supplier for that matter because of being on an extremely limited budget.

If I won this giveaway honestly I would take a little while to decide what to buy because I would want to make sure my purchase is exactly what I want and will be beneficial in the process of my creating at the time.

I am just getting into learning how to use rivets and learning how to do cold connections.
    I also love mixed media.
I have been working with resin as of late, and discovered UV Gel Resin and absolutely love and adore it. It is more costly than 2 part resin but I find it for certain projects that I design that it is a much better fit than 2 part. But I will say it does not work for every design I create. So I do still use 2 part.

I am also very avid in Wirework and Chainmaille, Bead Work of all different kinds, I am still working on finding my niche with bead embroidery.

Thank you for having this site and all the useful information that you provide. It is extremely beneficial to any stage of jewelry designer or creator that you are.
And thank you for this wonderful giveaway.

  55. Dremel is great to debur ear wires. A rubber mallet, ball peen hammer, household hammer, chasing hammer and a plastic hammer are the greatest set of tools for jewelry makers.Swanstrom Round Disc Cutter Set helps in the department of cutting. I would love to start learning how to rivet. I would pick an assortment of beads.
