I've used different backing materials for making resin jewelry.  Laser cut wood is on my list! This real flower and resin on wood brooch tutorial by Plotnikova Vera is delightful in so many ways.  She used a laser cut wooden violin as the foundation for her real flower design.  I liked how she colored the wood rather than leave it its natural color.

You can dry the flowers and leaves with the traditional flower press or use a microwave (see my tutorial below).  It is important to dry them thoroughly otherwise the organic material will continue to rot and decompose underneath the resin.

What the instructor did not mention is whether she glued on her dried organic material before pouring the made up resin over it.  I recommend you do glue (and let dry first) as these bits and pieces will move when the resin is added.

One suggestion is if you are reluctant to use 2 part epoxy resin, you can consider something like Diamond Glaze.  Just be warned that it will not dry as crystal clear as resin.

The tutorial is in Russian. So either use Google Translate or follow my favorite method. For computer users, use the Chrome browser, right click and select translate to English. For mobile device users, use the Chrome app (free) and agree to the translation when asked.
