The Handmade Channel has a great bead crochet tutorial if you are looking to learn this technique. What she does with the beaded tube is to flatten it so the bracelet is in fact doubled. The neat trick is to use sections of double sided tape inside to keep the shape flat.
I must add having long nails do help in getting the beads into place!
