Sometimes you run out of end caps. But other times, you just want an end cap which suits your wire designs. So whatever the reason, you make them by coiling wire! I have featured one tutorial which uses both jaws of the round nose pliers to make conical ones. In yet another, I loved the thick wire approach for making end caps with loops. But if you just want plain coiled wire end caps, check out the tutorial by Abby Hook. It is easy to do. What you do is manipulate one end of the wire coil so it forms a tighter and tighter coil.
I recommend you use dowels or knitting needles of the right size for coiling the wire. Remember, thicker wire (16G or 18G) looks better!
The end caps just look fabulous with her Viking knit and bead bracelets shown above!

Sure manufactured end caps have lovely designs - but your own hand made cap makes your work unique.

DeleteA good technique to learn, especially when you need a larger bead cap. I make mine with the round nose pliers, when I have to, but they are smaller.
ReplyDeleteRound nose pliers do work too! As you say, they would be daintier and conical.
