Trying to find just the right bead for your project? Well, you have to check out Lily Walter's store called TheCraftyBead. There is a GIGANTIC selection of all kinds of ceramic beads and bottle beads, many handmade in Peru.
As she said, "You will find anything from farm animals to dragons, to trains, planes and automobiles...and everything in between! Funky, funny, cute and crafty... with these amazingly detailed, hand painted beads, anything is possible." There goes your day!
The bottle or vessel beads are unusual and can be integrated with necklace designs. These pendants are meant to carry essential oils or fragrances, perhaps little treasures. These are sealed so essential oils cannot penetrate through - the vessel is just to have the oils on you ready for use. (Please read up on essential oil safety - best used diluted).
Shown here are the skull, sleeping cat and sitting dragon bottle beads.
"Made in Peru, each raku bead will be different from another because of the process: Each bead is "smoked" in a naturally formed oxygen reduced atmosphere. The oxygen is then drawn out of the beads and the glaze causing the resulting colors, metallic lusters, and crackles associated with raku pottery. Raku produces extarordinary results which cannot be predicted. The mixture of different temperatures and a broad range of chemical elements make Raku pottery special as each piece is unpredictably unique."
The animal bead section is also a stand-out. Many handpainted in Peru.

What an amazing selection of ceramic beads! Knowing how much work goes into making just one bead without any pattern at all - this is hands down - impressive!!
ReplyDeleteThere is something about the weight and feel of a ceramic bead. When you add some to a necklace it gives it that wonderful clacking sound when you move it around. To many people the weight and the sound means quality.
Good find Pearl. Of course you're going to have to drag me out of this store by my heels....
I think I might have come across some of these beads before as they look familiar but the bottles are new to me - they are true masterpieces!
