Book Review and Giveaway : Beadwoven Glamour

Remember Isabella Lam?  I featured her beautiful work not too long ago.  Her beautiful tutorials and bead kits in Bead4Me show her flair of combining crystals with beadwork.  Isabella, who lives in Israel, loves the challenge of using new beads in unique combinations.

She is also an established author with many publications featuring her work.

Her first solo book was Beautiful Beadweaving which was published two years ago.  Isabella has a new book out called Beadwoven Glamour.  Kalmbach Publishing recently sent me a copy to review.

The book does not disappoint.  Czech bead fans will delight in the use of of newer shapes like the triangular vexolo beads, the arcos par puca beads (double holed bean shape) and the zoliduo beads which look like commas (see the Butta necklace)!

The projects are suitable for all levels of beadweaving skills.  The many colorful and clear diagrams help. Indeed, beginners will appreciate the easy entry into making beaded bezels.

The stars of the 20+ bracelet, earrings and necklace projects are the crystals.  The designer uses the tried and true rivolis as well as fancy stone and chatons from the Swarovski line.  But the set crystals like the montees and navettes were what added considerable glamour to the designs.

Not many designers take advantage of the navettes as Isabella has done. The marquise shape imparts an Art Deco element to the designs especially when she mixed it with the vexolo beads shown below.

Isabella has a talent for using and grouping the new shapes of beads.

She also cleverly layers beads. I was wondering what the spiky beads were in her Darwin's Orchid Pendant until I realized they were Gemduos, the larger cousins to Superduos.

A lovely book worthy for beadweaving enthusiasts who crave inspiration for using new beads and crystal glamour.
