You have seen lovely bead boards for sale, right? I myself bought one which I use for more than just beading. It makes for a soft and hand-friendly tray for all sorts of non-messy projects.
But you can certainly make your own if you would rather not spend the money and have time to spare. You might well already have scrap fabric and the basic tools in your house to do so. This tutorial is by polymer clay artist, Susan Bailey of turtlesoupbeads. She is also on Facebook.
She uses a stack of cardboard for the foundation. However, you can also use a scrap piece of wood. Stretchy fabric is best.
