The last thing any wire artist wants is to have a cabochon fall out of the wire bezel.  Whatever style of hold one uses - prongs, wire frames which extend over the cabochons - they have to be secure.

Check out these easy cabochon tutorials by the wonderful instructor, Yvonne Williams on Youtube.  The advantage of this style of hold is that the gemstone can be admired from both sides. Irregularity shaped stones are also more easily dealt with.

The first tutorial includes a useful tip on how to use scrap wire to get the length of wrapping needed for the bail. See the video tutorial description for her list of tools and materials.

Her second tutorial uses the same style but with a long holeless crystal gemstone. This is where she uses more than 2 wire strands across the gem to great effect. Lovely touch adding an additional round gemstone on top.
