Adjustable cord bracelets are probably the fastest ones you can make. It's a good technique to use for using up odd beads. Gemstone ones are particularly desirable. Those who are metal allergic will be interested in this method as there are no metal clasps.
Check out this easy and quick tutorial which uses a straw aid to make the knots on either side of the bead(s). The Chinese instructor is Karen Hui who has a Youtube channel. Update : Her Etsy shop is now closed. A single mother, she originally started her business as a way of support and moving forward.
Gemstone bead holes are generally smaller so you will have to go with a thinner cord. I personally think that larger hole beads like these with a thicker cord will look more striking as they are more visible. But hey, if you like dainty, then go for it!
You can certainly do the knotting without a straw but the simple tool does help if you are all thumbs. I find that the smoothest cords like the rattails work best as they are very slippery. And the thicker cords are easier to knot consistently then thin ones.
Others might prefer to finish with an alternative macrame knot with tail ends as a clasp. Check out my previous post about Karen's pearl style knotted bracelet tutorial with has such a finish.
Or go to my own tutorial where I show you how to make a simple wire coil bead which takes both ends of the bracelet so it becomes an adjustable one without any macrame clasp.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I couldn't go to her Etsy shop. I just got a statement saying DIYNotion is not currently selling on Etsy. Shame. I wanted to see her different bracelets like this.
Thanks! I have updated the post with the info!
