The moon, being the nearest celestial object, has fascinated mankind for eons. The moon has been associated with strange behaviour, violent fits and werewolves. The word "lunacy" comes from the name of the Roman goddess, Luna who was supposedly the embodiment of the moon and a complement of the sun god, Sol.
There are many myths and legends about our only natural satellite. Many ancients (and some modern people) believed that the moon was responsible for fertility because the lunar and menstrual cycles were similar in length. There have been no scientific studies which show any such correlation.
The moon and its phases, not surprisingly, are very popular in jewelry design. Here are 5 awesome designs by talented designers who do wonderfully creative work with different gemstone cabochons. Shown above is the molly moon pendant tutorial by British designer, KellyJonesJewellery.
The next three designs are by the prolific Erika Pal of WireArtTutorials. The one below is a very clever pairing of a tree of life design with a lunar one given how much the moon is associated with life.
Indian designer, Gopi of ArtsvilleHandcrafted, is another favorite wire jewelry designer of mine who also demonstrates two different moon designs which capture different shapes of beads shown in her sun and moon tutorial bundle.

Wire wrapping artists always amaze me with their patience working with wire. I do some wrapping work but it's incredibly hard on arthritic hands unfortunately.
