Have you ever wondered why there are so many dog breeds in the world? Why are there such a huge variety - from the tiny chihuahua to a huge mastiff?  Yet all dogs are descended from a single species - the gray wolf Canis lupus of Central Asia.

The incredible explosion of dog breeds occurred over time. With natural mutations, climate and human preferences, more and more different types of dogs developed. Humans wanted dogs for different reasons - to help in hunting, herding, guarding, work and for companionship.

Dog breeds continue to develop as we can see with the crossbred types such as the labradoodle (labrador and poodle), cockapoo (cocker spaniel and poodle) and puggle (pug and beagle).

Here are some fabulous designers who have come up with different breeds of dogs for you to stitch up with beads.  First up are the beaded charms from a talented Lithuanian designer, LutitaPatterns - she has many in her shop but shown here are some of my favorites. Shown above is her adorable corgi in brick stitch/peyote

If you are making earrings, a loop can be created on one ear. Otherwise consider beading in a background as you can see from other designers further down.

Another designer who clearly loves dogs is the German bead artist, Alla of DoellePatterns. Some of her patterns have backgrounds and some don't as you can see from the two I chose from her collection below.

The only beaded dog fringe earrings I found so far is this little cute chihuahua from Ukrainian designer, Oksana of JewelryMagicHands
