Today, we enjoy fireworks as a celebratory treat. Fireworks were invented during the Song dynasty in China (960-1279 CE). Fireworks were made possible because gunpowder (one of 4 great Chinese inventions - the others were compass, paper making and printing) was also invented there, originally for medicinal purposes.

Here are some gorgeous beaded fireworks inspired tutorials and patterns. They cleverly capture the colourful patterns of real fireworks. First up are the 3D fireworks peyote star designs shown above by French beader, DiMarcaOnline

I love the bright colours in this fireworks beaded bracelet tutorial by HannahRosnerDesigns

The colour wheel earrings tutorial by LindaCreations4U were not named fireworks as such but they do capture the burst pattern of fireworks!

AMAZING DRONE SHOWS

Fireworks are still used but they are slowly being transplanted by even more amazing and entertaining drone shows where thousands upon thousands of these small unmanned aerial vehicles take flight, all computer synchronized to form complex moving patterns. One thing is sure, drone shows are more environmentally better as they do not create noise (no terrifying pets) or pollution.

This drone show to celebrate the beginning of 2026 took place in Shanghai China. 65,000 drones were used which is an incredible bundle of manufacturing, engineering and scientific achievements. So many stunning moving images - the way the tiger appears to step on the water is amazing.

This short video shows how a South Korean company makes, assembles and test the drones for prolonged flight and colour changes. It also includes a look at how the technical team designs the patterns and the placement, movement and lighting of each drone. It takes months to get it right for a show using just 1,000 drones. The planning and execution precision requires extraordinary teamwork. I love the bit when the drones take flight!  Enjoy!
