Seattle based Key named her business KellenKiera after her two daughters. They are her muses to her gorgeous cast and hand painted cold enamel earrings as the designs began with their zest for life all around them. Key turned them into sketches and these eventually became her signature designs. 

Her front and back earrings are charming as well as versatile as these can be worn as studs or together for unique compositions. I can certainly see why her cloud and raindrops as well as the stormy clouds and lightning designs reflect the rainy weather in Seattle! Her work make wonderful gifts.

She is so good at creating resin ocean and beach scenes in small wooden containers, shells and wall canvas. Her special touch is the addition of tiny creatures, pulmaria (frangipani) flowers, pebbles masquerading as rocks and even surf boards and slippers.  So much to remind one of the sea!

Malaysian artisan, Swee Cheng Yap, is the creator of gorgeous aquatic creature inspired earrings for TinyImaginarium. Her designs are really tiny, a fraction of the size of some of the actual ocean life forms which so fascinates her. I can't help but share her fascination - who knew there were so many types of nudibranch (sea snails) including some small adorable ones.

All are so beautifully colored - my favorites include her take on the mola-mola or sunfish and the sea angel earrings. Her deft use of pigments is inspiring!

Remember the gorgeous polymer clay and gemstone jewelry collection of FairyGardenGlow which I featured before? This German designer shows how it is more than possible to combine polymer clay with gemstones. You don't need to be a metal or wire artisan.

Check out this interesting 3D polymer clay and raw gemstone tree of life pendant tutorial. The designer (Handmade Art Time)  used small tourmaline chips as well as a raw amethyst piece for her piece. The tutorial shows how you can combine gemstones and polymer clay for a unique design. It doesn't have to be a tree of life either.

Tis the season!  I have found some lovely angel jewelry and ornaments before, but those made by Virginian Debra Havens of AngelicEleganceShop lives up to the name! Her wire angels and other ornaments are delicate, almost like they were sketches.  

I love how she made the central angel with beads, wire weaving and wire coils. Debra also makes poinsettias, a simple Christmas star, candle holders, garlands  as well as a clever manger in her signature style.

8 Beautiful Christmas Bell Ornaments and Jewelry Tutorials | Carol of the Bells


The earliest bells were made of pottery in Neolithic China over 3,000 years ago. Metal bells later followed. Bells were initially small. They had utilitarian uses such as animal collar bells, chariot bells and as handbells to alert people.  Exodus in the Bible mentions small ornamental gold bells on the robe hem of the high priest in Jerusalem. 

Bells eventually got larger and were used in churches and temples around the world. The bells were also chimes to indicate time - very useful in times when few people had personal timepieces. The traditional bell metal is usually bronze with about 20% tin. This alloy is also used for the finest Turkish and Chinese cymbals because it gave a pleasant tone. But the bell's tone is mainly due to its unique shape.

In the days when transportation of large bells was difficult, bell pits used to be dug on site so that the bellfounding or bell making process could be carried out close to where it was needed. A furnace was built next to it.

Beautiful Wire Wrapped Musical Notes Pendant Tutorial for Music Lovers | What to Use to Oxidise Copper


I have featured many musical note inspired wire tutorials before (see links below). But this new pendant tutorial from Gemseeker Studio on Youtube is an especially gorgeous one. 

I like it in so many ways. First, multiple loops are used instead of a single wire frame. The little wire weaving at one side of the pendant holds together the wires representing the 5 musical staves or lines and then beautifully flares out on the other end giving the design a flowing style.

One really good gift idea is the macrame key chain. It's quick to do and an excellent non-jewelry gift!  Even better if an instructor like Florida based Michelle of ManifoldWitness teaches you some beginner designs so that they end up looking like professional designs. She also sells finished macrame jewelry.

I particularly like the cotton colors and the eco-friendly types she offers including for the DIY kit.  One favorite is the wristlet keychain as it can be useful for car keys.
