Jewelry From Guitar Picks and Strings

Saturday, January 3, 2009

I am always on the lookout for unusual findings or materials to use in jewelry designs but I never thought a musical instrument store might be one place to look. Guitarpickwear.com makes "jewelry that rocks"! As you can see guitar picks make easy pendants, charms, connectors and earrings. Imagine if you have a treasured souvenir from a rock concert, you could, as they say, "Wear the Music!"

Another musically inspired jewelry is the Guitar String Bracelet Charity Project - the website is called Wear Your Music.org. You can buy Artist Bracelets handcrafted from used guitar strings donated by the musicians you choose. These are simple unisex bangles with fine silver findings which are stamped with the musician's initials. You can choose from hundreds of musicians or bands - some of these include Avril Lavigne (below), Bryan Adams, Pete Townshend, Peter Frampton, Slash and Elvis Costello. What's great is 100% of the profits go to the charity selected by the musician. Sweet!

Each is custom made so delivery can take up to 3 weeks. Their artist bracelets have been so successful that the organisation has launched a cheaper and colourful fashion bracelet set including a pack which sport guitar pick charms. They also do sterling silver guitar pick and guitar charms.

Sistren Pearl,

Now my granddaughter wants one of these! I can manage the guitar pick as a pendant or focal piece on a necklace, but I think I will leave working with the strings to another artisan.

Bless Up,
Lady Roots
