If you work with instruments and machinery like me, you know jewelry is best avoided for safety reasons. I still wear my wedding band or plain band rings though as no stone then protrudes above. So when I came across Maison Martin Margiela's fine jewelry collection, there was the answer - sideways rings! Now that's what I call lateral thinking!
That sideways pearl ring is really clever. Also available are the sideways recessed gem rings.
The designer's sideways idea also carries over to his bracelet and necklace pieces. As you can see each consists of two pieces - one is sideways to the other. Now that is innovative!
Martin Margiela is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, Belgium. He was Jean Paul Gaultier's design assistant for a few years back in the 1980's before founding his own fashion house. Photos are by Paul Lepreux.

Just what I need - sideways jewelery to match my sideways life. Who wooda thunk.
ReplyDeleteThat is really very, very clever. I'd love to own that pearl ring.
ReplyDeleteThe rings are wonderful and beautiful. Very unique. However I'm not quite sure the design translates as well with the necklace and I'm still in debate with myself over the bracelet.
