The last time I asked, a laser cutter strong enough to cut through metal costs $$$$$$. So hand sawing (or metal clay) is still a skill worth learning. Mariana, the Panama based metal smith behind Molay Joyas Handmade Jewelry, is a whiz with her jewelry saw!
Her silhouette style designs range from all sorts of adjustable animal rings, pendants and bracelet focals to delightful human figures and other objects. You can see even more of her designs on her Instagram.
Mariana is actually Colombian. She studied industrial design at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de MedellĂn, It was there where her interest in handmade jewelry began.
A serious medical condition forced her to make a radical change in her life. She ended up in Panama with her boyfriend and jewelry making, once a hobby, became her vocation.

Her skill saws are amazing! You know she had me at those bicycles!!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking this morning about how many artists I know that have had some kind of medical trauma and condition that has brought out their artistic skills and that's what they've turned to.
She is indeed skilled with her saw!! I know. She isn't the only one I have come across.
DeleteThese are whimsical and so beautiful but what impressed me most was that they are hand sawed!
