Claire of Adorablest called it a cheat macrame design because you can make this feather earrings very, very quickly - twice as fast! Unfortunately, her tutorial is no longer available but here is another tutorial by HonestlyWTF:
I like the idea because you can custom colors and blend them in any way you like! This idea is based on others which are larger home decor styles.
It's also a good design if you have scrap yarn or thread- you know, short lengths you are loathe to throw away?
