I don't know about you, but I enjoy watching speeded up mini tutorials especially of larger pieces.  Stephanie Kilgast is a French artist who does a lot of polymer clay sculptures in miniature.

This video shows you how she put together her succulent necklace. I love how she mixed blues with greens for this statement design.

Towards the end, you can see how she prepares the backing piece of polymer clay with the bent wire pieces.  Once she finalizes the positions of all the individual succulents and roses, she would have added some liquid clay on the backing sheet. The different elements are then place on top and the piece backed in the oven.

She also clearly clear varnished her design after that.
