Up for challenge? This gorgeous unisex wire wrapped knot ring tutorial by Vietnamese wire artist, Lan Anh will! Needless to say, this is for intermediate to advanced wire workers.
She creates the internal knot design first. The wire frame comes next. Both parts need to be sized correctly to fit the wearer. So there may well have to be some experimental pieces created in the first place to test for size.
Making it a bit smaller is easier to adjust than making it too big! If the former, you can put the ring on a metal ring mandrel and gently hammer the ring down the mandrel to enlarge it. Carefully does it as you do not want to distort the design.
Also note that this is an unsoldered ring. So wire ends - especially the frame - need to be flush cut and any wire burs removed before wearing.

Wow. Definitely going to try the ring! My customers love anything Celtic. I tried the caged bead tutorial that you featured a little while ago. Put a large and lustrous pearl in it, and the cage is very impressive, yet fairly simple and straightforward to make. I'm assuming that, with care, the ring will be equally as straightforward, as well, if fiddly. :-) Thanks for posting this, Pearl. I don't remember seeing it on Lan Ahn's YouTube site.
ReplyDeleteEasy to miss, Barbara! She is quite prolific.
