Florida based Bobbi Maw should really call herself the ring lady! That is because her signature item in her Etsy store, My Wired Imagination, are rings! These are all wire wrapped with the clever use of prong set crystals or gemstones together with Swarovski crystals. The prong set crystals are also known as sew-ons. These are typically used in the garment and handbag accessories industry but they lend themselves very well to jewelry designs.
A seasoned crafter all her life, she has been making jewelry for three decades. Making jewelry became a full time job when she lost her regular one back in 2007. She has never looked back.
She said, "My biggest regret is not doing it sooner, when my Mother would have been alive to see it. She was my biggest fan, and believed in what I could do, even when I didn't. 2 of my most popular ring designs, Marcella Crystal Ring 1 and 2, are named in honor of her, since I'm sure I inherited my obsession with rings from her."
She initially assumed it would be a temporary thing. But clearly, her work became popular. Bobbi added, "It’s taken a lot of work, more hours than I ever put into any other job. I do everything from jewelry design and creation, hunting down unique supplies to offer, writing tutorials, packaging, shipping, advertising, photography, accounting...." She loves it all.
This gorgeous wire wrapped pendant is cleverly made up of several sew on tear drop pink fire opal glass as the petals of the floral design.
Bobbi also sells loads of crystals and gems in settings - some are vintage Swarovksi. My favorite are the same fire opal glass ones used in the above design. They really look like real opals!
You can also learn how to make wire wrapped prong set rings etc as Bobbi offers many tutorials. This Fancy Band tutorial design is my favorite from her ring tutorials section.
This wire wrap cage pendant design tutorial is her bestseller! The tutorial is for 2 hinged cages and a locket!
