I have seen a large number of beaded snowflake jewelry tutorials. They could indeed make small Christmas ornaments.  However, you will need wire for the extra stiffness if you prefer something larger.

Shown here are 3 lovely snowflake ornament tutorials which combine beads and crystals with wire. First up is the wire wrapped snowflake tutorial shown above.  The designer is UK based Anri Adachi who is a wire work artist.

The next two tutorials are by one of my favorite beading instructors, Cara and Lane Landry of  Simple Bead Patterns - a mother and daughter duo from Washington, USA.

The design tutorial below uses a 4.5 inch wire form.

I also love this crystal and wire snowflake tutorial of theirs.  You can certainly make snowflakes in all kinds of colors.  They make great gifts too if you already have too many on your tree!
