Here is another awesome tutorial from one of my favorite instructors, Vietnamese wire worker of Lan Anh Handmade.  The clever design is for a conch shell pendant which also spins.  

You do have to make very consistent double ended wire half hoops to form the "shell".  Also a little bit of patience is needed when connecting up all those half hoops. 

The half hoops are kept apart with rondelle beads and wire wrapping. 

You can use just wire weaving and omit beads to maintain that separation.  This way, the shells will be more shell- like.
