Many wire wrapped rings use beads, be they crystals or gemstones.  I really like this wire wrapped ring tutorial design because the focal is a cabochon.  A little trickier to handle but worthwhile. The final ring reminds me of an evil eye ring!

The tutorial is by CreationsbyCaryssa.  What you need for this project is in the video description.  Square wire is necessary as the cabochon has to sit on something flat.  Half round wire is used for the wrapping.

Caryssa's tutorial also demonstrates the use of a pin vise to twist the square wire for an awesome look.  The pin vise is a very useful tool for wire work and I highly recommend it. I agree with the instructor, it is much easier to twist the wire than with regular jewelry pliers.
