Pretty much every tutorial I have ever watched on tassel making uses a simple method of coiling thread around a flat cardboard mandrel or something similar. I use this method too

But wait until you see Australian sewing instructor Angela of Notches Sewing make hers. It's utterly brilliant.  You will have to hop over to Youtube to see her tutorial.

Don't rip the paper sleeves because you will need it to keep the skein tidy as you work. You even use it to help you trim the ends. Her measurements are perfectly correct.

She also demonstrates the ancient technique of thread binding which uses no glue.
