Viking knit is an ancient technique. It's really fun to do - see links below. And even more fun when you can complete in a short space of time and don't have to use a drawplate! Check out these two tutorials on how Viking knit can be used for small round cabochons. These can be for earrings or as small pendants.
The first instructor is from the Canadian GemSeekerStudio who demonstrates the making of small Viking Knit earrings with different finishes. The Viking Knit shown here covers the round cabochons.
I loved how two crochet hook handles are used to form the oval wire coils for the top clover - the foundation where the weaving is done!

Vietnamese artisan of Lan Anh Handmade is the second instructor. Her Viking Knit pendant tutorial features very large clovers and she forms them by making long wire loops before hand forming them into shape. The first part might be tricky for beginners make consistently. So perhaps find two large crochet hook handles?
