The Victorians and Edwardians wore lariat necklaces but the style including other long necklaces became wildly popular during the Flapper era in the 1920's. The long look suited the straight lined short dresses of the day. Lariats are still popular today. Don't forget to check out past beaded lariat tutorial links at the end.

I love the look of lariat style necklaces. I have some gorgeous lampwork ends that hubby picked up in San Francisco (and don't tell me I'm the only one who's husband buys beads for them while he's at a conference!) and I've never come up with a design for them. Was always thinking along the lines of a lariat but as I don't do beading then I'm still on the 'thinking up a design for them' stage and I've had them about 10 years now! Sigh.....
ReplyDeleteI love the versatility of lariat necklaces. these are stunning examples, makes me want to dig my lariats out!
