Carp fish were originally domesticated as a food source in China. But for the last couple of hundred years, the Japanese have pioneered the breeding of and popularised ornamental carp like the koi. Today, there are many enthusiasts worldwide.
The koi also feature in many artistic designs. Shown here are my favorites from talented artisans. First up is the koi stained glass suncatcher (above) by Ukrainian artist, Kateryna of VitrageArtSouvenirs.
Texas based Yee So of byYeeSO makes some of the loveliest resin jewelry I have come across. I featured her before here. Shown below are her koi earrings which do not display the typical colors of real koi but are still pretty nonetheless.
German artist, Jasmine, of DearPrudenceBERLIN, has a way with designs with a vintage style. These are her awesome koi fish earrings complete with lily pad stud earrings.
I always admire jewelry designers who can fold paper mall enough for earrings. These origami koi earrings are by Washington artisan, Reinas of ReinasRealm.
Some artists are so talented. I particularly appreciate those who can paint resin koi little by little with each thin layer of resin. The result is 3D. Shown here is the miniature koi resin fishpond in a coconut shell half by Chinese artist, Dong of DongsDesignArt.
The tail fins of these laser cut wood koi earrings are so beautiful. The designer is Oklahoma based Amanda Storck of MongataCreations.
Some artisans like Canadian, Kerry of Wiredathart, are versatile in that they can work with more than one technique. Below is her wire wrapped pendant with a koi resin cabochon.
There were so many lovely koi beaded earrings to choose from but this one from German designer, Dorina of BerdorBeads lept out. Her choice of bead colors was such that the koi fish appeared to be 3D!
London based web and graphic designer, Elliot, has some stunning prints in his shop, Tegazumi. This set of 3 koi prints was my favorite.
The beauty of metal wall art is shown here with the outlines of two koi fishes. The designers and makers are BrosWallArtDecors from Turkiye (formerly Turkey).
Enjoy this beautiful koi inspired aerial dance for China Central Television and Radio's 2024 Spring Festival Gala. Watch as the airborne lead dancer is joined by all the other dancers rising above the floor as the dance progresses. A truly imaginative and creative spectacle involving music, choreography, costumes and an immersive environment simulating the watery world where koi fish live.

The video, how beautiful! and how fun to fly/swim on a wire like that. I have seen stickers to create Koi in layers in resin, each layer on a separate sheet, but to paint them! wow!
ReplyDeleteKoi are such beautiful fish. Every piece you've shown is incredible Pearl but that dance - oh my! I just had to share it it was so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough - Wayne Wiley just sent me a pic of a bracelet he did with koi on it. It was beautiful.
