Like the look of Pandora beads but can't afford them? Or perhaps you are not a lampworking artist. Then this tutorial by Linda Weirich a.k.a. The Frugal Crafter, might be of interest. She demonstrates how you can use knitting needles to help form large hole paper beads.
She also shows how you use the bead cores which look like eyelets. The bead cores not only help protect the ends of the beads but also gives them a better finish.
I also like how she used embossing powder to seal and give the beads a shiny coat. Linda mentions alternatives. I too would not recommend resin as it is awkward with the drying and time to dry. You can also use the water based polyurethane varnishes that polymer clay artists like to use.
Bead cores are inexpensive. You can use them for other projects such as polymer clay or resin clay beads.

I have often wanted to accent a kumihimo braid with a pandora bead or 2, but I've always thought they were too expensive. This is a perfect solution - not only i the cost, but also in the ability to find colors that really accent your braid.
