Extruders are very useful for polymer clay. This tutorial by AlekSanta shows how you can use extrusions to form lovely Celtic knots. The clay emerges as round tubes which were then slightly flattened before by used to make the knots!

The tutorial also demonstrates how a simple toothbrush can create the stippling effect. The choice of color is reminiscent of copper patina.
