I've feature quilling or paper filigree jewelry before.  But bead quilling is a first!  This unusual innovative technique is the brain child of North Carolina designer Kathy of KathyKingJewelryShop.  She has a studio in Artspace in downtown Raleigh.

She explains :"Bead quilling is a technique I developed back in 2007 that turns the beading on its side, exposing the holes of the beads and making the thread an integral part of the design." The designs are modern and geometric.

The beads are also stacked two deep and linked with ladder stitch.  I love how she uses different colored threads to make her designs pop. It is the thread which shows these are not fusible Hama beads.

Kathy also designs other kinds of beadwork not just bead quilling.
