Wire braiding is definitely not like braiding with yarn or even hair! Metal has "memory" so it will stay in the position you left it. So it takes some practice to get the braiding even.
This clever wire braided hoop earrings tutorial by Perfectly Twisted Jewelry begins with nested loops. Once the loops are locked into place, the braiding then begins.
She makes it look easy but it does require careful manipulation of the wire especially when making earrings where one has to match the other. I suggest checking the second one over the initial completed one as you go along.
Note that she also uses her pliers to adjust the size of the loops and braided portions as needed.
Best suited for intermediate wire workers and above.
