The Beading Gem

It's not often one comes across neck wire designs.  But this contemporary leather neck wire tutorial by Asergeeva of Anna Makes over on Instructables is a worthy mention not just because of the modern style. It incorporates simple wire and basic leather work.

I don't usually share a proposal story.  After all the internet is rife with stories of unusual wedding proposals.  But Blake and Carly's story is special because he proposed with a beautiful jewelry armoire which he handcrafted himself!  The jewelry armoire is sure to be a treasured family heirloom.

I was suitably impressed when I received samples of TierraCast's new Celtic collection for review recently. The quality of these pewter components in 3 different plating finishes (silver antique, gold antique and copper antique) was excellent. Crisp casting with smooth finishing and perfectly sized for jewelry making. These are also lead free. (Note : lower grades of pewter can sometimes contain lead so it is important to source pewter carefully).

I've covered tassel earrings before (see below).  But this stunning pair from Preciosa-Ornela is worth a look. It's not just the wonderful charlotte beads' ombre color scheme but the clever way in which each tassel is put together.

Crimping is one of the basic techniques in jewelry making. Yet, as many of the comments revealed in last week's giveaway for a pair of Om Tara crimping pliers, it's one that frustrates.  Part of the cause is using the regular type of crimping pliers incorrectly.  But it is understandable as the grooves in those pliers are hard to see thus making the placement of the crimp bead more difficult.

Micro macrame consists of little knots so you'd think the technique will be best suited for delicate designs. Nope.  Think statement!  These two beautiful statement macrame necklace video tutorials by Macrame School are excellent examples on how effective the use of beads and knotted cords can be.

My first foray into making silicone putty molds wasn't exactly a success.  But I am trying to improve as learning how to do so has great potential. You'll understand why when you check out this awesome tutorial by Becky Nunn.
