Gorgeous Metal and Wire Work Jewelry and Tutorials by BernaDerin | Amazing Properties and Uses of Copper

Turkish metalsmith and wire worker, Berna, says she is self taught. However, her gorgeous designs and tutorials for BernaDerin is an amazing testament to the amount of hard work and passion she has poured into her craft.

She uses mostly copper, a versatile metal which has interesting properties and uses besides for jewelry making (see below for more information).  She is superb at making wire work cuffs especially with the  braiding technique, sometimes with gemstones included. She considers many of her designs as male jewelry but really, I can see many women loving them too. So unisex is a better description.

Easy Stretchy Helm Weave Chain Mail Bracelet Tutorial | Great Gift Idea for Men

The lovely Yvonne Williams is an excellent Youtube instructor. I enjoy her wire wrapping tutorials. But she also teaches other techniques including chain mail.

Her stretchy helm weave tutorial is an easy one.  It's a great gift for men if you are stuck for ideas. The stretch part comes from the use of rubber rings. You can also add a clasp for an all metal bracelet.

Sterling Silver Jewelry For Men by EmmanuelaForMen

Men today are wearing more jewelry than ever before, finally breaking the two century stranglehold for on Western male attire set by Beau Brummel (see my past post : Beau Brummel : A Regency Dandy's Minimalist Jewelry Style).  Before then, men wore jewelry just like women did - see the enormous pearl dangle earring worn by Sir Walter Raleigh here.

Greek metalsmith, Emmanuela Alevizpoulou of EmmanuelaForMen, caters to this trend in a stunning way with her wonderful sterling silver collection.  She also designs for women. The pieces are antiqued and sometimes very heavily oxidized.

Paracord Knotted Jewelry Tutorials by KNOTFindsTUTORials

Supporting Ukrainian Artisans

It's not often I come across great jewelry tutorials for both men and women.   But Ukrainian artisan, Konstantin of KNOTSFindsTUTORials offers bold designs using 550 paracord.  This is a strong, waterproof material which dries quickly.

What makes his bracelets and necklaces distinctive is the strong use of metal elements especially the clasps. The skull one is particularly eye catching!

Rustic Men's Cross and Amulet Necklaces by Trijoux

With Easter on the horizon, I was out scouting for cross designs when I stumbled on Canadian metalsmith, Celine of Trijoux's wonderful work.  She specializes in jewelry for men. Her rustic cross and amulet designs stood out, all rendered with patinas.

Her most popular pieces are the nail crosses. She also creates amulet and totem designs as well as a few daintier pieces for women and younger folk.

Unisex Coiled Wire Bracelet Tutorial Has the Look of Chain Mail Style

I've accidentally flattened a wire coil before  - used a thinner gauge than I should have.  I called it a mistake and moved on!  But Vietnamese wire artist, Lan Anh Handmade, actually uses that feature for her nifty unisex coiled wire bracelet tutorial. It has the look of chain mail but has no interlocking jump rings.

She puts the wire coil over her bracelet wire foundation, then uses a rolling pin to flatten the coil!

Can Men Wear Pearls? Yes! They have Been Wearing Pearls for Centuries!

Can men wear pearls?  Sure they can!  Men have been wearing pearl jewelry for centuries.  It's only in the last 200 years or so that men's fashion as been austere and decidedly lacking in jewelry.

This long style trend was set by Regency dandy Beau Brummell (1778-1840)* who went for the understated look and rejected the ornate and colorful style popular then. No more elaborate powdered wigs, makeup and colorful jackets and waistcoats for him!

Minimalist Unisex Paracord Bracelet Tutorials have Beading Potential!

This paracord bracelet tutorial by CybS stood out.  It has a minimalist style which would surely appeal to both men and women.  Not a paracord fan?  Consider using leather or other cord and in different thicknesses.

I could see beading potential. You could certainly use this bracelet design as the foundation and add beads in between the two main cord lengths.

Watch How Cuban Chain Link is Made

No one knows how the Cuban chain link (also known as Miami Cuban chain link) came to be.  The Cuban chain link evolved from the hip-hop movement in the 1970's and 1980's.  The heavy masculine chain jewelry has been rising in popularity since about 2012, helped no doubt by various celebrities.

Viking Inspired Unisex Braided Cord Jewelry and Keyfobs by Cordbraid

Paracord 550 is arguably the most common material used for unisex jewelry.  Dimitri Wirt of Speyer, Germany specializes in braid cord work.  His shop, Cordbraid, shows off his different types of bracelets as well as unique key fobs.  I knew Etsy had different style categories (boho, contemporary and so on)  to describe listings but this is the first time I have seen "brutalist"!

Dimitri is not just skilled with braiding cords. His creations are often Viking themed. The Thor's hammer clasps he combines with his cord work are particularly noteworthy.  He uses really high quality clasps - bronze, stainless steel and even sterling silver.
